Parc Guell

Parc Güell is a hillside park designed by Antoni Gaudi, built from 1900 to 1914, and officially opened as a public park in 1926. The grounds are beautiful and many of the structures are brightly and colorfully designed. When I visited Parc Güell in 2010, I remembered that we walked to the top of the steep hill with the assistance of escalators built into the street and then just meandered down the hill through the park. Last time I was there, it was very hot and humid in the July weather but, this time, the weather was sunny, beautiful, and comfortably cool. Additionally, Parc Güell now requires tickets but they were not required in 2010.

After getting off the metro and walking down the street, Ashley was not pleased to see that the “entrance” to the park was up the steep hill. Since she had double knee surgery two months prior, this was not an easy feat for her. After we started walking up the hill, there was a lot of construction in the middle of the street. This is where I realized that they were doing construction to rip out and probably replace the escalators that helped you up the hill. This time, we had to walk it all ourselves! Once we got to the top, we were able to take a nice walk down through the park and look out at the city of Barcelona.
